Sunak survives crucial Rwanda vote

The Rwanda bill, officially known as the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill, passed its third reading in the UK House of Commons on January 17, 2024. The bill aims to declare Rwanda as a safe country to deport asylum seekers to. It passed by 320 votes to 276, giving the government a majority of 44. The bill will now face scrutiny in the House of Lords, where it may be amended due to the government's lack of a majority there. The passage of the bill was a significant victory for Rishi Sunak, the prime minster, who had faced a rebellion from some members of his party over the legislation
