One of the most delightful features of the Schönbrunn Palace is its stunning gardens, which span over 1.2 square miles.

Some of the biggest rulers that stayed at the Schonburn where -

Maria Empress Maria Theresa - The only woman to rule the Habsburg empire in her own right.

Maria Theresa's daughter Marie Antoinette - Who was the last queen of France married to King Louis XVI, until she was executed on a guillotine during the French Revolution.

Emperor Franz Joseph - Often called the greatest ruler in the Habsburg Emire, who reigned for 68 years. He was the first emperor of Austria-Hungary. He was born and died in the Schönbrunn Palace.

His wife, Empress Elisabeth of Austria also known as SISI. She was known for her youth and beauty. She was Frank Josephs couisn and eventually married him, her husband cheesed her. However SISI did not get along with her mother in law and did not enjoy the strict Viennese court. She spent most of her time in Budapest. She also learned the Hungarian language in one year, something that is very hard to do and the locals say impossible unless someone has a Hungarian lover. SISI was assassinated on 10th September 1898 by an Italian Anarchist named Luigi Luchen.
